Spanish Flag Snapper Lutjanus carponotatus Lutjanidae [Snappers] 17.3 cm [max to 40 cm] 5.6 cm Marine 2 - 80 m Coral reefs, both sheltered lagoons & outer reefs. Often in schs of 20-30. Yes Snout somewhat pointed. Generally blue-gray on upper side body, fading to white or yellow-white ventrally. A series of 8-9 orange &/or yellow stripes from head to caudal. Fins & tail, yellowish-orange. A distinct black spot at base of the pectoral fins. Scale rows on back rising obliquely above lateral line. Dorsal spines:10, Dorsal rays:14-16, Anal spines:3, Anal rays:9. May look identical to a few snapper species but are different as their stripes are white or blue with yellow body. This particular fish was caught somewhere off Singapore Changi, during my 4th offshore Fishing Trip on 12/2/2003 |
