Local common name:
Golden Snapper, Fingermark Snapper, Ang cho kee[hokkien]
29.4 cm [max to 97 cm]
[Max to10.5 kg]
Up to 80 m
Coral & rocky reefs. Juveniles also found in mangrove estuaries
High price, most expensive of all the snappers.
Look out for this: Scale rows on back parellel to lateral line. Upper back generally bronze to silver sheen, sometimes giving the overall appearance a golden tinge. A large black blotch mainly above the lateral line, below the anterior dorsal-fin ray. Fins & caudal usually yellow & red. Dorsal profile of head steeply sloped. Often misidentified with other few snappers which have a black spot.
This particular fish was caught somewhere off Singapore Changi, during my offshore Fishing Trip on 4/8/2002.
