Look out for this: Scale rows on back parellel to lateral line. Upper back generally bronze to silver sheen, sometimes giving the overall appearance a golden tinge.  A large black blotch mainly above the lateral line, below the anterior dorsal-fin ray. Fins & caudal usually yellow & red. Dorsal profile of head steeply sloped. Often misidentified with other few snappers which have a black spot.

This particular fish was caught somewhere off Singapore Changi, during my offshore Fishing Trip on 4/8/2002.
